Leader Online Desk: In the case of hate speech, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. The Supreme Court gave a big relief to Annamalai today (29th). In this case, the court has ordered to adjourn the proceedings of the case. Annamalai is accused of allegedly making hate speech against Christians in an interview to a YouTube channel in October 2022. Now the court has clarified that the hearing in this matter will be held in the week starting from 9th September.

Directing the complainant to reply within six weeks

A bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta adjourned the case till September after the defendant sought time to file a counter affidavit. Annamalai had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to quash the hate speech case. The bench asked the complainant to file a reply within six weeks. The bench also clarified that the interim order will remain in force. It was also said that the matter will be listed again in the week starting from September 9. Earlier, as the hearing began, the bench said that it was a private complaint and the state government was not made a party in the matter.

In today's hearing, senior advocate Indira Jaising sought time to file an affidavit representing the complainant V Piyush. On February 26, the Supreme Court stayed the proceedings in the criminal case against Annamalai. After hearing the statements made in the interview, the bench said, 'Prima facie, there is no hate speech. No hair is removed.

Annamalai gave an interview to a YouTube channel on 22 October 2022, in which he alleged that a Christian NGO had filed a court case to ban the use of firecrackers during the festival. In his petition, the complainant has alleged that the BJP leader deliberately lied and encouraged communal hatred.
