Ranji Trophy Final: Mumbai's target of 538 runs to Vidarbha! | leader









Leaders Online Desk : Ranji Trophy Final : Musheer Khan's century and half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane and Shams Mulani helped Mumbai set Vidarbha a mammoth target of 538 for victory in the Ranji Trophy final. On the third day of the match on Tuesday (12th), the Mumbai team was all out for 418 runs in the second innings. In reply, Vidarbha scored 10 runs without losing a wicket till the end of the third day's play. Atharva Taide (3*) and Dhruv Shourey (7*) are back in the unbeaten tent.

Earlier, Mumbai's lead was 260 runs till the second day. Mushir Khan (136) and Ajinkya Rahane (73) put on a 130-run partnership on the third day. After Rahane's dismissal, Musheer along with Shreyas Iyer (95) led the team's innings. The pair added 168 runs and broke the backs of the Vidarbha bowlers. Then Shams Mulani also scored a half-century (50 not out) for Mumbai in the last overs. Harsh Dubey took the most 5 wickets from Vidarbha. Yash Thakur took 3 wickets. Aditya Thackeray and Aman Mokhade took 1 wicket each.

Mushir's second first-class century

Musheer faced 326 balls and hit 136 runs with the help of 10 fours. This became his second first-class century. Musheer has been in incredible form in the Ranji Trophy. In the quarter-final match, the player scored a stunning double century (203*) against the Baroda cricket team. After this, in the semi-final match, he scored 55 runs against the Tamil Nadu cricket team.

Musheer broke Sachin Tendulkar's record

Musheer Khan broke Sachin Tendulkar's record during his brilliant innings. He became the youngest batsman to score a century in a Ranji Trophy final for Mumbai. He scored a century in 19 years and 14 days. Earlier this record was held by Sachin Tendulkar. He scored a century against Punjab at the age of 22 in the final match of the 1994-95 Ranji season.

Shreyas Iyer's century missed

Shreyas came in to bat at number five and scored 95 off 111 balls. He hit 10 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Shreyas could not do anything special in the first innings. He returned to the pavilion with 7 runs off 15 balls.

Rahane played the captain's innings

Rahane was dismissed for 73 runs off 143 balls in this match. He hit 5 fours and 1 six in his innings while batting at a strike rate of 51.05. It was his 57th half-century in his first-class career. In first-class cricket, he has so far scored 13,225 runs in 318 innings from 188 matches at an average of around 46. It also includes 39 centuries including 57 fifties.
