Bollywood's famous casting director Mukesh Chhabra has done the casting of the recently released film 'Amar Singh Chamkila'. He told during an interview that casting this film was a big challenge. Mukesh Chhabra also praised Diljit Dosanjh. He says that Diljit Dosanjh becoming a star never seemed possible earlier. But today there is a Punjabi in Bollywood who is a star.

When asked whether Imtiaz Ali already had Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in mind to play the roles of Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur, Mukesh Chhabra revealed – We had already thought of this. Because to play the character of Amarjot, we needed someone who could sing and was from Punjab. Diljit was the first choice for this from the very beginning, because it is the story of a Punjabi singer. Who would be better than Diljeet for this?
Talking about the casting of the film, Mukesh said – All the actors working in this film are amazing artists. After Gangs of Wasseypur, this was the first time I needed 6 to 7 assistants. Because we were casting from everywhere in the Punjab belt. I did not want to leave any stone unturned for this film.
I had discussed with Imtiaz Ali in the beginning that we would do casting even for the smallest part. We often cast for primary roles and then leave it, but in 'Chamkila' we wanted to cast every character. So we did a huge audition to find the right actors.

He said- Till now, whatever films we have done in Punjab, be it 'Manmarziyaan' or 'Lal Singh Chaddha', we have made very fictional stories. But Chamkila was different from all those films. It was challenging for us because it was a biopic and we had to be completely honest to the story and the people.
We had to do such casting in which people seemed to be from the era we are trying to show. It should not seem as if he is acting. So all the casting we did for the film was actually Punjabi. The biggest thing to be kept in mind while casting was that the actor's physique and speech should be Punjabi.

The film 'Amar Singh Chamkila' is released on Netflix on April 12. This film is based on Punjab's folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Born in Dhubri, a small village of Ludhiana, Amar used to compose songs on extra marital affairs, love affairs and husband-wife relationships. These songs of his used to be the first choice at weddings in Punjab. In the film, the character of Chamkila is played by Diljit Dosanjh while Parineeti Chopra plays the role of his wife Amarjot.
