Leaders Online Desk: Former MP Mahua Moitra, who was suspended from Parliament in the Cash Four Query case, has been nominated again. He was suspended for taking money and asking questions in Parliament. Now Trinamool has again entered the election fray from Congress.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has announced candidates for 42 constituencies for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on Sunday (March 10). In this list of TMC, the party led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, former MP Mahua Moitra has been given a chance to contest again.
The Trinamool Congress has held its meeting for the first time since 2019 at the historic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. In the meeting held in 2019, the leaders of 19 opposition parties came together. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress's number of seats fell from 34 to 22, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) performed brilliantly and won 18 seats in the state. Eight MLAs and two MPs have joined the ruling party after the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal.
Mahua Moitra Controversial Cash Four Query Case
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Mahua of taking money and asking questions in the Lok Sabha. Subsequently, the Ethical Conduct Committee of the Lok Sabha found Mahua guilty in the case and suspended him from Parliament. On December 8, 2023, his membership of Parliament was revoked.
