Dimple Kapadia was very impressed by Rajesh Khanna's romantic image in films. She thought that Kaka would sing romantic songs for her after her marriage in real life. Dimple revealed this in an interview a few years ago.
Dimple had said that after marriage she thought that Rajesh Khanna would take her to the mountains and sing the song 'Meri Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi Tu' for her but nothing like that happened and she was disappointed. Dimple also said that she was only 16 years old then and used to remain lost in the world of dreams, considering films to be reality.
Dimple had said, 'I was very filmy then, I thought Rajesh ji would take me to the mountains and sing the song 'Meri Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi Tu' for me. I am not lying, I was very young then and the films had such an impact on my mind. When we reached the mountains and there was no song, there was no wind either, my condition worsened.'
Dimple had proposed to Kaka
During this time, Dimple also talked about her love story with Rajesh Khanna. She told that she met Kaka after signing the film Bobby. Dimple said, 'I was 13 years old when I was offered Bobby. There was an age gap of 15 years between Rajesh Khanna and me. When I signed Bobby, Kaka and I went to Ahmedabad for an event with some other celebs. Rajesh Khanna sat next to me in the flight and I kept looking at him. I told him, there will be a lot of crowd here, you will hold my hand, right? He said, yes of course. I immediately said, forever? I was very filmy and then after that we got married.'
There was a rift in Dimple-Rajesh Khanna's relationship
Rajesh and Dimple got married in 1973. They have two daughters, Twinkle and Rinke Khanna. One and a half years after their marriage, Dimple gave birth to a daughter, Twinkle, in December 1974.
Rajesh and Dimple lived happily for some time, but then quarrels started between them. When Dimple left Kaka's house after 11 years of marriage, she remained separated from him for 27 years but both of them never got divorced.
When Rajesh Khanna was diagnosed with lung cancer, Dimple returned to take care of him. When Kaka passed away in 2012, Dimple was also with him.
