Virat Kohli: T20 World Cup team door closed for Kohli? BCCI will give Dutch? | leader

Leaders Online Desk: All squads for ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be announced by April 30. The BCCI will have to finalize its squad in the last week of April or the first week of May. Meanwhile, an important news has come out about Virat Kohli. There are reports that his name may be dropped from the T20 World Cup to be played in June.

According to reports, Indian selectors are not interested in including Virat Kohli in Team India for T20 World Cup 2024. The main reason for this is that Virat Kohli is believed to have not met the needs of the team in the T20 cricket format. Virat hasn't played a single T20 international since the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, he was included in the squad along with Rohit Sharma during the T20I series against Afghanistan. Later, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah talked about Rohit Sharma captaining India in the T20 World Cup, but did not mention anything about Virat's T20 future.

According to this report, BCCI has entrusted the selection of Virat Kohli to Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar. Because this is a sensitive issue most people want to stay away from this process. Notably, Agarkar discussed with Virat about changing his style in T20. Kohli then tried to implement it in the T20I series against Afghanistan as well, but he did not get much success.

Is 'this' also the cause?

According to the report, the team management believes that the pitches in the West Indies are too slow. Virat Kohli's playing on those grounds will not benefit the team. In such a scenario, Agarkar may talk to Virat Kohli to give the youngsters a chance to come forward. The BCCI believes that young players like Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma and Shivam Dubey have the potential to contribute more than Kohli in T20 cricket.

Will Rahul be the wicket keeper?

It seems almost certain that KL Rahul will be the Indian cricket team's wicketkeeper in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, Rahul's fitness is also a matter of concern and his fitness will also be tested during the IPL. In such a situation, the selection committee will have a constant eye on Dhruv Jurel and Jitesh Sharma, who were seen shining in the India-England Test series.

All the teams have to send their list of players for the T20 World Cup 2024 to the International Cricket Council by the first week of May. The Indian team has been placed in Group A along with Pakistan, hosts USA and Canada. India's first match will be played against Canada on June 5. The match between India and Pakistan will be held on June 9.
