Soumya has worked in one Tamil and three Malayalam films in the 90s.
Famous actress Soumya has accused a Tamil director of mental, physical and sexual abuse. Soumya said that the director used to insert a rod in her private part for entertainment. Soumya said that it took her 30 years to recover from this incident. She wants all the victimized women to raise their voice against such abuse.
In an interview with NDTV, Soumya said that she was 18 years old when she met the director. On one hand, the director considered her as his daughter and on the other hand, he raped her. Later, things got so bad that the director wanted to have a child with Soumya. He used her as a sex slave.
However, Soumya refused to reveal the name of the director. She said that she will reveal the name of the director to the Special Police Force, which has been formed by the Kerala government after the Hema Committee report came out.
The director raped me for 1 year
Soumya further said, 'One day when his wife was not at home, that man kissed me calling me his daughter. I was completely shocked. I wanted to tell this to my friends, but could not. I was ashamed thinking that I had done something wrong. Even after this, I continued with dance rehearsals and other things. Slowly that man started taking advantage of my entire body. He raped me. All this continued for 1 year. In a way, he messed with my mind.'
The director's daughter had also accused him of rape
Soumya said, 'The director's daughter had accused him of rape and left. The director and his wife had denied these allegations.
He took me to his house. In the beginning, he behaved very well with me. He used to bribe me with good food and milkshakes.
Soumya was scared of the director during the shooting
Saumya also revealed that she was initially not comfortable with the director. She said, 'I said this in the first meeting itself. However, I was obliged to work in that film.
During the first outdoor shoot, the director did not talk to me. In the first agreement it was written that his wife would direct the film. But in reality he was directing the entire film. In this way I was completely under his control. He was behaving with me in the way men usually show anger while remaining calm. I was very scared of him.
'After seeing actress Revathi I decided to join films'
Soumya said, 'I was 18 years old and it was the first year of college. I came from a family background where my parents knew nothing about films. The offer to work in Tamil films came through college theatre.
I was very inspired by actress Revathi who lives nearby. This is the reason why I agreed to give a screen test for the film.
Soumya said that her parents were not ready to let her work in films. Then the director told her parents that he had spent a lot of money on Soumya's screen test.
After the Hema Committee report came out, many actresses made serious allegations against actors
There have been allegations of sexual abuse against female actors in the Malayalam film industry for the past several years. To investigate this, a 3-member committee was formed in 2019 under the chairmanship of retired Justice Hema.
After 4 years, on August 19, Hema Committee submitted a 233-page report to the Kerala government, in which exploitation by many big artists came to light.
Since the Justice Hema Committee report came out, actresses in the Malayalam film industry have been continuously making allegations against many big actors and filmmakers.
