T20 World Cup : First run off the 17th ball! Embarrassing record of Erasmus of Namibia

Leading Online Desk : T20 World Cup : In the ICC T20 World Cup, Namibia's Gerald Erasmus created an embarrassing record while playing against Australia. The Namibian captain top scored for his team with 36 off 43 balls. But in between he had to bowl 17 balls for his first run. Erasmus now holds the record for facing the most number of balls to open an account in T20 International cricket. Earlier this record was held by Tanmay Mishra of Kenya. In 2007, Tanmay Mishra opened his account in 16 balls against Pakistan.

Australia booked their ticket to the Super-8 from Group B after registering their third win in the ICC T20 World Cup. While Namibia and Oman are out. Scotland or England are likely to reach the Super-8 from this group.

The Namibian team was bowled out for just 72 runs in 17 overs. Gerald Erasmus scored 36 runs off 43 balls with the help of 4 fours and 1 six. Apart from Michael van Lingen who scored 10 runs, no other Namibian batsman could reach double figures. Namibia was able to reach this score only on the strength of Erasmus' innings. In 21 runs, half of the Namibian team was back in the pavilion. Australian spinner Adam Zampa took four wickets for 12 runs in four overs. Josh Hazlewood and Marcus Stoinis took two wickets each. Pat Cummins and Nathan Ellis each sent a batsman to the pavilion.
