Nifty opened at 22,406 today. After that Nifty registered a rise to 22,430 points. Top gainers on Nifty are Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, LT and Apollo Hospitals. While NTPC, M&M, Sun Pharma fell marginally.
Why is the stock market open on holidays?
Today stock exchanges BSE and NSE have decided to keep the markets open on Saturday as part of their policy to assess the preparedness of the system in case something unexpected happens. Meanwhile disaster recovery sites from NSE and BSE will be tested. For this, the stock market was opened for trading today. Earlier also on March 2, the market was opened on a Saturday holiday. The stock market is closed every Saturday and Sunday along with other national holidays.

The stock market witnessed a record-breaking rally in the Friday trade yesterday on the back of GDP growth and positive global cues. On Friday, the Sensex closed up 1,245 points at 73,745.
