Stock Market Closing Bell | Recovery in Sensex, Nifty, which stocks are top gainers?


Leader Online Desk: Indian stock market is witnessing volatility during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Today, Wednesday (8th), there was a minor decline for the fourth day in a row. The Sensex closed down 45 points at 73,466. While the Nifty settled flat at 22,302. BSE Sensex and Nifty started today with declines. After that, the market saw a recovery in the afternoon trade.

  • Shares of Tata Motors closed the highest by 2.42 percent
  • Shares of Asian Paints fell 2.31 percent to become the top losers

Shares of oil and gas companies rose in today's trading session. Meanwhile, IT and private bank stocks remained under pressure. 2,133 shares rose on BSE. While 1,661 shares fell. 132 shares saw no change. Nifty Oil & Gas remained the leader with a gain of 1.7 percent. Nifty metals and autos rose more than 1 percent each. Profit booking was seen in banking and realty shares. BSE Midcap closed 0.7 percent higher and BSE Smallcap 0.5 percent higher. IT, banking, consumer durables stocks fell. The Capital Goods Index was the top gainer with an increase of 2.13 percent.

2.42 lakh crores earned by investors

Meanwhile, the market capitalization of BSE listed companies rose by Rs 2.42 lakh crore to Rs 400.85 lakh crore on May 8. Earlier on Tuesday May 7, the market capitalization was Rs 398.43 lakh crore. This means the market capitalization of BSE listed companies increased by Rs 2.42 lakh crore today.

Which stocks are top gainers, top losers?

Asian Paints, Ultratech Cement, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance, Infosys, ICICI Bank were the top losers on BSE Sensex. While the shares of Tata Motors, Power Grid, NTPC, LT, Maruti, Nestle India, Reliance, Tata Steel, SBI, JSW Steel remained bullish.

On NSE Nifty Dr. Reddy's, Asian Paints, Ultratech Cement, Grasim, HDFC Bank were the top losers. BPCL, Hero Motocorp, Tata Motors, Power Grid, Hindalco were the top gainers.

Nifty Private Bank fell

The Nifty Private Bank Index was down 0.8 percent on declines in shares of Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank.
