Stock Market Closing Bell | Break in three-session bull run, Sensex, Nifty close lower | leader


Leaders Online: The Indian stock market broke the three-session rally today on Tuesday. The Sensex closed down 361 points at 72,470. While the Nifty fell by 92 points to settle at 22,004. BSE Midcap gained 0.7 percent. While BSE Smallcap closed flat. Shares in the banking and IT sectors continued to weigh on the market today. Realty and metal sectors continued to boom. After a weak start, the market traded in the negative zone. The intraday recovery was witnessed on the back of buying in oil and gas, metals, capital goods and realty shares. But both the indices ended lower due to selling in media, IT and banking shares.

On the sectoral front, banks and IT indices fell 0.5 percent each, while capital goods, realty, oil and gas, metal indices gained 0.5-1 percent.

Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, Wipro, HDFC Bank, Kotak Bank, Infosys, Kotak Bank, Asian Paints were the top losers on Sensex. While the shares of Bajaj Finance, NTPC, LT, Axis Bank, Tata Motors saw a boom.

Shares of Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, Eicher Motors, Wipro, HDFC Bank fell between 1-2 percent on the Nifty. While shares of Bajaj Finance, Hindalco, Adani Ports, Britannia, NTPC rose between 1 to 3 percent.

Nifty Bank closed in the red today. Shares of HDFC Bank, Kotak Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank, AU Bank fell in Nifty Bank. Only shares of PNB, Axis, Bank of Baroda traded higher.

DMart shares rose for the sixth consecutive session

Shares of Radhakishen Damani-led Avenue Supermarts (Dmart) rose for the sixth consecutive session. The shares touched a 52-week high in early trade today. The retail stock has gained 13 percent in the last six sessions. The stock was up 4 percent at Rs 4,497 on the NSE in afternoon trade. (DMart shares)
