Kolkata, News Agency : BCCI's decision to drop Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from annual contracts is right, says former captain and former BCCI president Saurabh Ganguly. BCCI dropped Iyer and Kishan from annual contract and it is a big decision. Both of them participated in the ODI World Cup campaign in India last year. Kishan last played for India in November 2023, while Iyer was a member of the Indian squad for the second Test against England at Visakhapatnam. (Sourav Ganguly)
Ganguly said that BCCI's decision regarding Kishan and Iyer was correct. Contracted players are also expected to play domestic cricket. BCCI wants him to play first class cricket. I am surprised that Shreyas and Ishan have not played in major tournaments like the Ranji Trophy. Players must play first-class cricket. (Sourav Ganguly)
'These two are wrong. You want to play first-class cricket. Once you become a contracted player, you are expected to play. Shreyas Iyer will play for Mumbai in the semi-final in a few days,' Ganguly added.
He added, 'Kishan left the tour of South Africa midway and did not play in the series against England either. I was surprised by his behavior. I wonder why Ishan has not played despite the fact that he is a member of the Indian team's all-format squad and has a huge contract in the IPL.'
