Leader Online Desk: New appointments were made today on 2 vacant posts of Election Commissioner in the Election Commission. This includes the name of Punjab's Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. SS Sandhu is an IAS officer. He has recently retired from the post of Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand. Now SS Sandhu has got the important responsibility of Lok Sabha elections.
Sukhbir Singh Sandhu is a 1988 batch IAS officer. He has passed MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar. He has completed his Masters in History and Law from Guru Nanak Dev University. He has recently retired from the post of Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand. The Lokayukta was appointed as Secretary by the Government of India for a period of one year.
Sandhu has served as Chairman of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He was appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand in July 2021, replacing Om Prakash. He then retired from the post of Chief Secretary to the Government of Uttarakhand on 30 September.
Sandhu was then appointed for a period of one year as per the appointment letter issued by the Union Cabinet Committee. He was given an extension of six months till January 31, 2024. After this he retired and was appointed as Secretary to the Lokayukta at the Center for a period of one year. Now he has a big responsibility of Lok Sabha.
