Leaders Online Desk: India's young grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa has made great achievements in the field of chess. Pragyanand recorded his first classical victory over world number one Magnus Carlsen in the third round of the Norway Chess Championship in Stavanger on Wednesday (29). The Indian Grandmaster has taken the sole lead in the open division.
With this victory, 18-year-old R. Pragyanand has taken the lead in this prestigious event held at Carlson's home ground. On Wednesday, he defeated the world's top chess player Magnus Carlsen in the third round of the 'Norway Chess 2024' tournament. He scored 5.5 out of 9 at the end of the third round. On the other hand, American Grandmaster Fabio Caruana finished second with three points after a win over GM Ding Liren on Wednesday.
This is a big success for Pragnanandane. He lost to Magnus Carlsen in last year's World Cup. Pragyanand is only the fourth Indian to defeat Carlson in classical chess. On the other hand, Pragyanand's sister R Vaishali has maintained her top position in the women's division of Norway Chess.
