Southwest Monsoon is very likely to move over South Andaman Sea, parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands tomorrow, Sunday, May 19. A low pressure area is likely to form over southwest Bay of Bengal during Wednesday, May 22, and this area is likely to move slowly towards northeast initially. The Meteorological Department has also clarified that there is a possibility of pressure forming over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal around Friday 24th May.
Monsoon 2024 Update: Highlights of Monsoon:
- Monsoon generally enters Kerala around 1st June.
- This year one day earlier ie on 31st May Monsoon in Kerala
- Monsoon covers the entire country by July 15.
- Monsoon will rain strongly in the country this year. Above average means 106 percent rainfall is expected.
- In the coming monsoon season, 'La Nina' will return, rain will fall intermittently.
Southwest Monsoon is very likely to advance into South Andaman Sea, some parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands around 19th May, 2024.

Southwest Monsoon will enter Kerala on 'Ya' date
Favorable conditions are likely to develop in the next 48 hours for monsoon to enter the South Andaman Sea. So it is more likely that monsoon will enter Kerala a day earlier than usual. The Indian Meteorological Department has informed that the monsoon will arrive in Kerala on Friday 31st May (Monsoon 2024 Update).
Heavy rain till May 21 in southern 'Ya' state
Heavy to very heavy rains have been issued from Sunday, May 19 to Tuesday, May 21 in most of the states of the southern peninsular region of India. The India Meteorological Department has predicted the possibility of very heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the south.
