Leader Online Desk : Congress candidate Kishorilal Sharma defeated BJP candidate Smriti Irani in Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, which is one of the most popular Lok Sabha constituencies in the country, by around 145,000 votes. Smriti Irani, who defeated Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, got 3 lakh 40 thousand 693 votes while Kishori Lal Sharma got 4 lakh 86 thousand 166 votes.
30 years pending work completed in just 5 years : Smriti Irani
Speaking to the media after the defeat, Smriti Irani said, “I thank the workers and supporters of the BJP party. Today I am thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that their government has completed 30 years of pending works in just 5 years.”

54 percent voting was done in Amethi
Voting was held in Amethi on May 20. The voting percentage was 54.34 percent. Priyanka Gandhi herself campaigned strongly for Kishori Lal here. A joint rally of Rahul and Akhilesh was also held. Now the attention of the whole country is drawn to who the people of Amethi finally elect as MP.
Amethi was the stronghold of Congress
In 2004, 2009 and 2014, Rahul Gandhi won the election from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency. But he had to face defeat in the 2019 elections. BJP's Smriti Irani defeated him by more than 50 thousand votes.
