There is controversy over Vikrant Massey's upcoming film The Sabarmati Report.
The film is releasing on 15th November – The Sabarmati Report. This film is based on the Godhra incident and the subsequent Gujarat riots. The film is also in controversies after the trailer release. The film's lead actor Vikrant Massey is receiving threats. Even his opponents are not sparing his 9 month old child. They are also speaking nonsense about that.
Vikrant Massey himself has revealed this in an interview given to Dainik Bhaskar. Vikrant said that many have baked bread in the fire of Godhra incident, but those who were killed remained just statistics.
It's been 22 years since the Gujarat riots, but the truth is still not known. Vikrant Massey said that he knew that the issue of the film was sensitive. He also realized that this could be discussed in both positive and negative ways. However, the film's producer Ekta Kapoor had full confidence in her script.
Vikrant said, 'Ekta gave me a long research paper. I understood that if the research is so solid, there is no chance of any controversy. In the beginning I definitely wondered whether this film was against any particular religion, class or person. Later, after reading the script, I understood that this film only talks about the truth. Sadly, 22 years have passed but there has not been much discussion on this issue.
Didn't even leave my 9 month old baby Vikrant told that he is receiving threats because of working in a film based on Gujarat riots. He said, 'I am receiving threatening messages on WhatsApp. I became the father of a son just 9 months ago. He has not even learned to walk yet. The opposite is being said about that also. I don't understand in which era we are living. Is it right to suppress art?
Germany's Nazi army massacred thousands of Jews. Many films were made on it and it also received awards. Similarly, America dropped atomic bombs on Japan, many award winning films were made on it. Then why do we think so much about making a film on the events happening here?
I was scared while signing the film, but if not today then when? The film's actress Raashi Khanna said that when she got the offer of this film, she definitely felt scared. This is because if anything happens, the first bomb explodes on the actors.
Rashi said, 'There is a saying, if not us then who and if not today then when? Someone will have to do such films. No one knows the real truth of Godhra incident yet. Where did the fire of this incident arise and how it started, we have shown all these things through the film. When we got the offer for the film, we definitely felt scared. There was a fear that something bad might happen. No matter who makes the film, we the actors are its face. For this reason, trolling also happens to us the most.
Rashi basically works mostly in Tamil and Telugu films.
Today the condition of journalism is pathetic, where should I go to find trust? This entire film has been made from the angle of journalism. The story of the film is based on how the journalists of that time presented the Godhra incident.
Riddhi Dogra says, 'In today's time, journalists tell news very casually. I don't know where to go to find trust. All the media houses are trying to project themselves. They don't even care about showing the news. I got associated with this film to make the audience aware about this situation.
Riddhi Dogra started her career as a TV actress.
English is a global language, but why feel embarrassed to speak Hindi? In the trailer of the film, it was told how English journalists underestimate Hindi journalists. Vikrant says, 'People are discriminated against on the basis of language. Nawazuddin Siddiqui once said that because he did not know English, he was looked at differently. I always say that language is just a medium. I believe that English is a global language. I have no objection to this. The problem is when you start feeling shy in speaking your language.
People of South are proud of their language, not so in North India Raashi Khanna also talked about the language barrier. He said, 'I have also worked in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada industries. The people there feel very proud of their language. Not knowing English is not a big deal there.
Whereas in North India, Hinglish (Hindi-English mix) is used more. Here, those who do not know English are given lower rates. I think like the people of South respect their language, why can't we do the same?
