More than 40 Indians dead
A massive fire broke out in a six-storey building in the city of Mangaf in southern Kuwait on Wednesday (Dec 12). The death toll in this accident has reached 49. More than 40 Indians are among the dead. The other dead are from Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt and Nepal. More than 50 people were injured. The accident happened around 6 am local time. A large number of workers lived in the building where the fire broke out, officials in Kuwait said. The building that caught fire is owned by a person from Kerala. (Kuwait fire)
Foreign Minister leaves for Kuwait
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh has left for Kuwait to help the injured Indians and bring back the dead bodies. Helpline to contact family members
DNA testing is being done to identify those who lost their lives in the fire. The next of kin will be informed as soon as the bodies are identified. Indian Air Force planes will bring back the bodies. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is in touch with the local authorities to provide assistance to the people affected by the incident.
