These days Kritika Kamra is seen in the web series Gyarah Gyarah. This series has recently been released on the OTT platform Zee5. After the release, Kritika spoke to Dainik Bhaskar.
Let's start the conversation with Krithika…
How did you get cast for the project?
I joined this project just like I have joined other projects. I auditioned for this. After this, director Umesh Bisht and the makers liked my audition. Then they called me to meet them and I was asked to read the script. When I read the script, I was only thinking from my perspective that what new should I do in my career? So I felt that I have never played the role of a police officer. That is why I should do this character.
When I read the script, I realized that it has some fantasy elements as well. We have seen many police based dramas, crime dramas, but this is a completely new story. I found the concept of this series very interesting and I became a part of it.
How did you prepare for the character?
There are two types of preparation. Firstly, you work on your body. A lot of work has to be done on body language. When you wear a uniform, a responsibility comes inside you. For this character, I also took training in shooting a gun. I also learned to drive a Bolero car for this show. I also took a license to drive.
Secondly, mental preparation is also done for the character. For this, I attended a lot of reading sessions. I understood a lot about my character with the series director Umesh Bisht.
How was your experience working in the series?
It was a great experience. It is an actor's dream to show his art on such a big canvas and I have learned a lot from this show. I have never played the role of a police officer before. Playing this role was quite challenging for me. I do very little work because I am also very selective.
I don't want to go on set and just happily do my work and have it happen without any effort. I like it when I can shoot all day and get the best out of my role.
Is there any biopic that you would like to do?
There is no such biopic. But there is nothing left that I have not explored. I have not worked in a musical drama yet. I want to work in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's project. His project has songs, dance and set design.
How much is OTT growing?
I think OTT is on an absolute boom. This is a new beginning. Things have changed now, if you see, OTT has become a go-to platform for us. Because we can watch it anytime on any device. After the advent of OTT, good writing has started happening in our industry. New actors and directors have come. With this, this platform has become very business oriented.
There is some freedom in OTT. Here too the numbers have started coming and the views make a difference. A lot of work has started happening on the stories. It is not that if there are no big actors then the show will not work. Good stories are able to make their place and this is a good thing. I hope this continues.
What are your upcoming projects?
I am shooting for the web series The Matka King. Nagraj Manjule is its director. I am getting a chance to work with him. This series will be released next year.
