Leaders Online Desk : IPL 2024 : Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined 12 lakhs. It was said that the action was taken against him due to his slow over rate in the match against Rajasthan Royals in Kolkata on Tuesday. IPL released a statement in this regard on Wednesday.
IPL (IPL 2024) officials said that this is Kolkata's first offense of the season, hence the minimum punishment as per the IPL code of conduct.
Rajasthan won the toss and decided to bowl in this match held at the Eden Gardens Stadium. Kolkata scored 223 for 6 in 20 overs. Sunil Narine scored 109 runs off 56 balls. Rajasthan scored 224 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Rajasthan opener Jos Buttler (107 not out) battled till the last ball to lead his team to a thrilling victory. Meanwhile, KKR suffered a double blow with this defeat. Their captain Shreyas Iyer was fined Rs twelve lakh for slow over-rate.
KKR could have won this match easily, but Jos Buttler alone turned the game around. As a result, Shreyas Iyer-led KKR suffered their second defeat of the season. Along with this, KKR are second in the points table with four wins from six matches, while RR have strengthened their lead at the top spot with their sixth win in seven matches.
