Former IPS Officer Sanjiv Bhatt: Former Gujarat IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt has been convicted in the 28-year-old Palanpur NDPS case. Bhatt was produced in the Palanpur Sessions Court on Wednesday. In this 1996 case, Bhatt, then SP of Banaskantha, was accused of keeping a kilo and a half of opium in a hotel in Palanpur and implicating a lawyer in a drug case.

Sanjeev Bhatt, along with social activist Tista Setalvad and former Gujarat Director General of Police RB Sreekumar, are accused of fabricating evidence in the 2002 Gujarat riots case. Bhatt came into the limelight when he filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court alleging the role of then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots. The Special Investigation Team dismissed the allegations. Bhatt was suspended from service in 2011 and dismissed by the home ministry in August 2015 for 'unauthorised absence'.
