Death threat to judge who orders 'Gyanwapi' survey

In a letter to the Bareilly Superintendent of Police, Justice Diwakar said, “On April 15, a call was received from an international number. At this point the speaker threatened to kill him. A few days later, a similar call came again. Justice Diwakar who has recently been transferred to Bareilly. Earlier he said that he and his family received threats. He also demanded an inquiry into the matter.

After his transfer to Bareilly, Justice Diwakar took up the 2018 Bareilly riots case on his own. He had ordered Maulana Taukeer Raza to face trial for allegedly masterminding the 2018 Bareilly riots that destroyed property worth crores of rupees. Curfew was also imposed in Bareilly for 27 days.

Justice Diwakar had in April 2022 ordered a video survey of the Gnanavapi Masjid adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple. After this they started receiving threats. He also ordered the sealing of Wudhu Khana (ablution area). Y-category security was provided to them along with their families due to threats. However, it was later downgraded to X category. The judge's current security detail consists of two security personnel.
