Earlier, twice in a week, the Congress had asked why the central government did not grant the status of classical language to Marathi language. Why didn't the Modi government give the status of classical language to Marathi language?

In the last ten years, the demand to give the status of classical language to the 'Marathi' language is pending with the central government, why did the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi not give the status of classical language to the Marathi language? Congress asked this question twice in the backdrop of Lok Sabha elections. The issue of giving the status of classical language to Marathi language will be important in Maharashtra. With the advent of the 'India' coalition government, 'Marathi' was given the status of a classic Indian language

Congress media general secretary Jairam Ramesh posted in this regard on X and said, 'If the India-led government comes to the country, Marathi language will be given the status of classical language'. Jairam Ramesh said, “Tamil, Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Odia languages ​​were given the status of classic Indian languages ​​when Dr. Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister. On July 11, 2014, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan, demanded that Marathi be declared as a classical Indian language. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not done anything on this for ten years. The Congress party is promising that Marathi will be declared as a classical Indian language as soon as the India Alliance government is formed in the country.”

Repeated demands from Congress leaders, but central government inactive on this

Earlier twice, Jairam Ramesh had held the central government on edge over the same issue. In 2014, the then Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan filed the report of the Ranganath Plateau Committee and demanded to give the status of classical language to Marathi language. Then in 2022, MP Rajni Patil asked a question in this regard in the Rajya Sabha. Citing these two demands, the Congress had also warned that the voters of Maharashtra would teach a lesson to the central government in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections about the central government's inaction.
