Mohammad Mokhbar has been appointed as the Interim President of Iran.
Leader Online Desk : After the death of President of Iran Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter accident, Vice President Mohammad Mokhbar has been appointed as the interim President. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei handed over the interim charge to Mokhbar.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has clarified that Mokhbar has been appointed as the interim president according to Article 131 of the Constitution of Iran. Mohammad Mokhbar will have to work with the judicial chief to prepare for the presidential election within the next 50 days.
Ali Bagheri Acting Foreign Minister
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has died in a helicopter crash. Ali Bagheri, Iran's top nuclear negotiator, has been appointed acting foreign minister.
Five days of national mourning declared in Iran
A helicopter carrying Iranian President Raisi and Foreign Minister Abdulahiani crashed in a dense forest in East Azerbaijan province on Sunday. Nine people including Iranian President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian, and East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati died in the accident. Five days of national mourning has been declared in Iran.

Who is Mohammad Mokhbar?
Mokhbar was born on 1 September 1955. Like Raisi, he is considered close to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Mokhbar became the country's first vice president after Ibrahim Raisi was elected president in 2021. He was the chairman of the board of Sina Bank and the deputy governor of Khuzestan province who participated in the committee that visited Moscow in October. He holds two doctoral degrees.
