A plane carrying the vice president of the East African nation of Malawi has gone missing









Leader Online Desk: A plane carrying Vice President Solos Klaus Chilima and nine others in the East African country of Malawi has gone missing, Malawi's president said on Monday. Chilima took off from the capital Lilongwe on a Malawi Defense Force plane, but Aviation Authority officials have not contacted the plane since.

The Office of the President of Malawi said in a statement that Chilima was traveling on a Malawi Defense Force aircraft. The flight took off from the capital Lilongwe at 9.17 am local time (12.45 pm IST). But after that there was no contact with the plane. President Lazarus Chakwera has ordered regional and national forces to begin an immediate search and rescue operation for the plane. President Chakwera was scheduled to visit the Bahamas, but has canceled his visit after learning of the incident.

When Chilima was arrested in 2022, his rights were revoked. He was accused of corruption in a bribery case involving a British-Malawi businessman.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, the plane of the President of Iran, Ibrahim Raisi, also went missing. It was later revealed that his plane crashed and he died.
