Leader Online Desk : The entire cricketing world is focused on the upcoming T20 World Cup. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had given a deadline of May 1 to announce the team selection for this competition. Accordingly, India, Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Oman and Canada have announced their teams. But the team of Pakistan has not been announced yet. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given the reason in this regard.
When Pakistan cricket team will be announced?
The Pakistan Cricket Board has not announced the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in time. The YCC had set a deadline of May 1 for announcing the squads, which could be changed by May 25. The PCB said some players were struggling with fitness issues. Hence, the team selection is likely to take place on May 23 or 24.
Selectors are worried about the fitness of the players
The Pakistan team management and selectors are worried about the injuries of Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan, Irfan Khan Niazi and Haris Rauf. Now these players will be tested for fitness before the matches against Ireland and England. The selectors will name the squad for the T20 International series against Ireland and England on Thursday and analyze their performance before announcing the World Cup squad, the PCB said.
The delay in team selection does not matter as all teams can make changes by May 24. Any subsequent changes made on the basis of fitness or injury will require the approval of the ICC Technical Committee. This is why the PCB and the selection committee have decided not to announce the squad until the first match against England.
