Just a few years after this interview, Amitabh Bachchan's entire life changed when he appeared in Kaun Banega Crorepati. He has been hosting this game show till date. Apart from KBC, the film Mohabbatein directed by Yash Chopra also helped Big to regain his lost stardom.

90 crore loan and then trying to make a comeback with Mohabbatein

Let us tell you, Amitabh started the production house Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL) at the height of his career. Films like Tere Mere Sapne, Mrityudata consecutively flopped. Big events like Miss World Beauty Pageant (1996) also left Amitabh in debt.

Suffering continuous losses, Amitabh drowned in debt of Rs 90 crore. The company was on the verge of ruin and Amitabh was bankrupt. He also mortgaged his bungalow Pratiksha for company funds. Bombay High Court gave him strict orders that he cannot sell his bungalow and flat until he repays the loan from Canara Bank.

In an interview given in 2013, Big B told that loan collectors used to stand at his door every day. Abused and threatened. There was neither money nor any means to repay the loan. Amitabh spent hours thinking of a solution to pass through this bad phase. One day he came to the decision that he was an actor and he was an expert in it. Amitabh went straight to Yash Chopra and said- Give me the work.

Amitabh as a hero, Mrityudata, Suryavansham, Lal Badshah, Hindustan Ki Kasam were flops. Yash was about to make the film Mohabbatein at that time. Both the opportunity and the hero were in front. Yash gave him the character of Narayan Shankar. Deep in debt, Amitabh also agreed to the character role. The film was released and became the highest grossing film of that year. Amitabh, who has been receiving praise for his excellent acting, started his second innings with Mohabbatein.
