Veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor has talked about the making of the 1983 cult classic film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron in a recent interview. He told that during the shooting of a sequence, 25 people had to go to the 26th floor, but due to overweight, the lift got stuck on the 7th or 8th floor. Pankaj told that on that day those 25 people had a narrow escape from death.
Let me tell you, apart from Pankaj Kapoor, the film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro also featured actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Satish Shah, Neena Gupta and Satish Kaushik.
Know what was the whole incident?
Pankaj Kapoor told that after finishing one shot, while shooting another scene, a team of 25 people had to go to the 25th floor and shoot. The building owner's son told everyone that the lift will go up to the 26th floor, after which everyone can go down one floor by stairs.
Pankaj further said- We did not realize that we had put more load on the lift than its capacity. I kept saying that there are more people in the lift, but no one listened to me. As soon as we started going up, the lift got stuck on the 7th or 8th floor. The lift was neither able to go up nor was it coming down. Everyone started panicking.
After this, somehow the lift was taken closer to the building. We were all lucky that no accident happened. Everyone just jumped. Due to overweight, the wire pulling the lift also started breaking. But we all came out of the lift in time. Otherwise 25 people would have fallen straight down from the 7th or 8th floor.
All the actors used to shoot for 24 hours.
Pankaj Kapoor said that Jane Bhi Do Yaaron is one of the greatest Indian films of all time. This film was made on a very low budget. During the shooting, the actors used to work for 24 hours. Pankaj further said- We were working for almost 24 hours. Every actor used to rest for 1 hour and then start shooting again because we knew how difficult the film was being made. We were all ready to do anything for this film.
