Speaking to 'ANI', Nirmala Sitharaman said that 56 people have died due to consumption of poisonous liquor in Tamil Nadu. More than 200 people admitted to the hospital are in critical condition. Most of the dead belong to Scheduled Castes. Congress has not spoken a single word on this issue. Many Scheduled Caste people have died due to consumption of poisoned liquor in the state and Rahul Gandhi has remained silent. Nirmala Sitharaman has demanded that the investigation of the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Union Minister said, 'In the state where government gives licenses to shops to sell liquor, poisonous liquor is produced in Kallakuri town of the same state. After all, where are Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi?, he also asked at this time.

In Tamil Nadu's Kallakuri town, the death toll has reached 56 on June 19 after consuming poisonous liquor. As many as 216 people have been admitted to four hospitals in Tamil Nadu, whose condition has worsened due to drinking poisonous liquor. Out of these, 3 patients admitted to Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry were declared dead. Kallakurchi Medical College has seen the highest number of deaths. 31 patients admitted here died. At the same time, 18 patients admitted to Salem Medical College have died.
