WhatsApp: WhatsApp big action! 7 million accounts banned in India

Leader Online Desk: WhatsApp has taken a big action in India. Between April 2024 and April 30, 2024, WhatsApp has banned about 71 lakh accounts in India. The Meta-owned instant messaging platform gave this information in a Bharat magazine report. The report said that WhatsApp has taken this action to prevent misuse and for security. The company has also warned of shutting down more accounts if users violate the rules.

More than 71 lakh accounts banned

WhatsApp terminates the accounts of millions of Indian users for privacy violations every month. In the month of April, WhatsApp closed a total of 71 lakh 82 thousand accounts. Of these, 13 lakh 2 thousand accounts were closed by WhatsApp before any complaint was received. WhatsApp tries to prevent wrongdoing in advance. For this, any error can be identified using technology. This technology provides signals indicating if the account is being used for wrongdoing.

Action on 6 accounts on complaint

In April 2024, a total of 10 thousand 554 complaints were received from users on WhatsApp. These complaints ranged from account-related issues, post-ban appeals, app-related issues, and security issues. But, based on these complaints, action was taken against only 6 accounts.

WhatsApp's shutdown of Indian accounts is part of its efforts to comply with the Information Technology Regulations 2021. The rules ask companies to publish reports detailing the actions they take when they receive user complaints and break laws. WhatsApp's latest report dated June 2024 reveals that they are taking drastic steps to stop wrongdoing with the help of user complaints and their own advanced technology.
