We count every vote : ECI releases 5-phase poll data

Leader Online Desk : The Election Commission of India (ECI) today (Dec 25) released the total votes tally along with the percentage of total votes polled in the five phases, clarifying that the allegations of manipulation of the vote tally are baseless. In this data, the Commission has declared the total number of voters in each Lok Sabha constituency and the number of actual voters who voted.

It is not possible to manipulate the vote count

The Election Commission while submitting its report has also claimed that there has been no change in the number of votes. The commission also said that creating falsehoods to distort the election process has become a pastime.

All the allegations of manipulation of vote figures are baseless

The Election Commission has said that the allegations regarding vote tallies are a ploy to spoil the atmosphere, and the observations and judgments of the Supreme Court have given strength to the election process. This makes the Commission aware of its responsibility to follow the democratic process without any coercion. Therefore, it has been decided to make the total number of voters in each constituency public in a transparent manner, the Election Commission has also clarified.

Disruption of electoral process due to false allegations

Through Form 17C, data is shared with candidates' agents on polling day itself. How can it be changed later? This data is available 24 hours a day on the Voter Poll app, which anyone can view at any time. In such a situation, there is no question of irregularity in the number of votes. Election Commission has also mentioned that false allegations hamper the election process.

The final list of total votes obtained is given to the candidates

Elaborating further on the transparent system, the Commission said that the final list of the total votes cast at the polling station is given to the candidates. Authorized agents have a specific Form 17C for each of the 10.5 lakh booths in all 543 parliamentary constituencies in the country. Agents are allowed to carry EVMs and statutory documents including Form 17C from polling booths to storage in strong rooms.

There was no change in the voting percentage

The Commission has requested that the candidates and their representatives come to the counting center with a copy of Form 17C and complete the votes counted in each round. There has been no change in the voting percentage either.

How many percent voting in five phases?

  • In the first phase there were a total of 166386344 voters and a total of 110052103 people exercised their right to vote. The voting percentage in the first phase was 66.14.

The Supreme Court refused to grant the interim order

On Friday, the Supreme Court had refused to grant any interim order to the commission on ADR's petition. The court also clarified that it is not appropriate to do this during elections. The petition requested the Supreme Court to direct the Commission to upload the information on the polling booths in each Lok Sabha constituency during the Lok Sabha elections on the website.
