The Boycott Napo Kids campaign that went on during that period also had a negative impact on Varun's career.
Apart from Varun, actors like Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha were also seen in the multi-starrer film 'Kalank'.

These days Varun is working on the film 'Baby John' which is being directed by Atlee. It is a remake of Vijay starrer South film 'Theri'. Before this, Varun has done 3 remake films in his career, out of which 2 films 'Main Tera Hero' and 'Judwaa 2' were hits.

- 'Judwaa 2', released in 2017, was the remake of Salman Khan's 'Judwaa' released in 1997.
- Varun's film 'Coolie No. 1', released in 2020, was also a remake of Govinda's hit film of the same name released in 1995.
However, Varun's father David Dhawan has been quite ahead in this matter. He made about 44 films in his career. Of these, 17 films were remakes of South or Hollywood films. There were 12 films whose stories were inspired by other films.

Anil Dhawan has been a famous actor of yesteryear. He has given hit films like 'Piya Ka Ghar', 'Chetna' and 'Andhadhun' in his career.
Varun and Natasha were childhood friends. Natasha had rejected Varun's proposal 4 times.
Married to Natasha Dalal after being rejected 4 times
In personal life, Varun married his childhood friend and long time girlfriend Natasha Dalal on 24 January 2021. Varun and Natasha were classmates since childhood. Varun had told in an interview that he first felt love for Natasha while playing basketball in 12th class.
He proposed Natasha four times but every time his proposal was rejected. However, seeing Varun's true love and efforts, Natasha agreed. Both of them got married in 2021. Both are going to become parents soon.
