Ulka Gupta has been in the glamor industry for a long time. She has also worked in South and Marathi industry. In the year 2018, she was seen in Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan starrer film 'Simmba'. She played Ranveer's sister in the film.
According to Ulka, after 'Simmba', she was only offered sister's role which she refused. Now 27 year old Ulka Gupta will be seen playing the role of a single mother in the show 'Main Hoon Saath Tere'. Initially, when this show was offered to her, she was not sure about it. However, after giving the audition, he took it as a challenge and agreed.
During a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Ulka Gupta shared some interesting things related to her new show and her professional life.
Auditioned for the show on manager's advice
My manager told me about this show 'Main Hoon Saath Tere'. On his advice I gave my first audition. Initially I was not sure about playing the role of an on-screen mother. Then thought, what is the harm in giving audition? Anyway, I have always been inclined towards challenging roles. I really liked the clips of my audition. Taking it as a challenge, she agreed and got selected.
Despite not being a mother, it is challenging to play the role of a mother.
To be honest, I am still not completely ready for this character. I never felt the feeling of motherhood in real life. There is no doubt that becoming a mother is a great experience. How much does a mother sacrifice for her child? But, I am too young to understand this feeling. As an actor, till now my limitation was only till love story. I never thought that I would be an on-screen mother. Despite not being a mother, playing the role of a mother is quite challenging. The journey so far has been good with the support of the director and team.
After 'Simmba', only sister's roles were offered.
During 'Simmba', I was going through a transition period in my career. Before that I had explored TV, South Industry, Marathi Industry. When a Hindi film was offered, I thought why not explore it too. Thankfully, the film got good response. People liked my work. But, then I always started being offered sister's roles. I was quite young at that time. I was not getting major roles. Then I turned towards OTT.
Never considered Bollywood as a criterion for success
Well, I never made any such criteria that I would feel successful only if I do Bollywood. I have always taken full time for myself. Have always given time to my family also. If you want to learn a new skill, then learn it. Kathak, singing, theatre- I have made time for everything.
It was a matter of good fortune that she became a part of 'Jhansi Ki Rani'.
In the future, I would like to do a biopic on someone who changed the world. It is a matter of good fortune that I got to play the lead role in the TV show 'Jhansi Ki Rani'. I would like to be associated with such roles in future also.
