Heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the early hours of Thursday (May 2), days after severe flooding hit the United Arab Emirates in April. This has led to flight cancellations due to waterlogging in some areas and bus services have also been suspended in Dubai. (UAE rains)

According to Khaleej Times, five inbound flights to Dubai were diverted overnight, while nine arrivals and four outbound flights were cancelled. The country's meteorological department issued an amber alert at 4am today, about an hour after the sudden onset of torrential rains in Dubai. Which indicated that the rain clouds covered most of the country. Also, it has been predicted that adverse weather conditions will remain throughout the country till Friday, May 3. Therefore, the administration has also advised the residents to follow safety measures during monsoons.

Roads were reported to be flooded in parts of Abu Dhabi, while strong winds were reported in Jebel Ali, Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai Industrial City, Dubai Investment Park and Jumeirah Village Triangle, local media reported. A record-breaking storm hit the desert city of Dubai in April this year, killing at least three people and disrupting normal life, even suspending flights, reports said.
