This time the success story is of filmmaker Rohit Shetty.
'When I was very young, my father's shadow disappeared from my mind. Was aware of the condition of the house. Because of this, he took the responsibilities of the family on his own shoulders. Worked hard day and night. Worked 3-3 shifts in a day, so that there was no shortage of work. People think that I have not struggled. Like other strugglers, I too have faced setbacks, but never stopped. Felt scared after stumbling several times, yet kept moving forward.
This is said by Rohit Shetty, one of the most famous directors of the film industry. Rohit is known for great films like Golmaal, All the Best and Singham. However, there was a time when he received only Rs 35 as fees. Now Rohit's recently released film Singhan Again is making new records at the box office.
The story of Rohit from floor to floor, in his own words…
When his financial condition deteriorated after his father's death, he started earning money. Rohit told that he had decided to enter films after seeing his father. He says, 'My childhood was spent like that of normal children. My father used to work as a stunt director in films. He also acted in some films. He was very famous in the industry at that time. There was always a filmy atmosphere at home. Whenever I went out with him, I used to hear only about films. This was the reason why we were not introduced to any other world other than this one. I had decided in my childhood itself that I would do the same work that my father was doing.
However, everything changed after the death of his father. I was young when he died. With time the financial condition of the family also deteriorated. That's why I started working very early. Secondly, there was also a passion to do better work in the world of films.
The woman seen in the yellow circle is Rohit's mother. He also worked in many films.
Entered the industry at the age of 17 Rohit was 17 years old when he entered the industry. Even though Rohit had acquaintances in the film world, he too had to struggle to get work. Many times it happened that he had no money at all. For this reason, he used to travel many kilometers on foot and by local train even in the scorching summer. Sometimes one had to compromise even to eat.
Regarding this he said, 'I started working at the age of 17. In the beginning I had made up my mind that I would either become an action director or a director. Like other strugglers, I too had to struggle during such a long journey. Like others, I had to roll a lot of papads to get work. Made the first film, which did not do very well. Then Golmaal was created, which created history. I have made 16 films so far. Maybe if Covid had not come, more would have been made (laughs)…'
Even pressed the clothes of stars in the beginning of their career. Rohit started his career as an assistant director. His first earning was only Rs 35. However, even after this, Rohit did not stop struggling and working hard. He also had to do other small jobs, which he did. He did the work of pressing the sarees of the actress. Not only this, he also worked as a spotboy for some time.
Regarding this he said, 'Yes, it is true. See what happens is that the assistant director has to do every small task. The second is that at that time the budget of any film was not very high. The unit was small. For this reason each assistant had to do a lot of work. Not only me, many have done this kind of work.
At that time no work was underestimated. All kinds of work, including ironing the actress's sarees, were done.
Rohit was scared when his first film flopped, luck changed with Golmaal Ajay Devgan started his production house with films like 'Dil Kya Kare' and 'Raju Chacha'. Rohit also joined Ajay and started working as an assistant director. 'Raju Chacha' was a big budget film, but the film did not fare well. Ajay Devgan suffered a lot due to this. Ajay and Rohit had to close the production house for two years. After returning all the loans, they together directed 'Zameen'.
Rohit made his directorial debut with the 2003 film Zameen. However, this film also did not do much. Due to continuous flop films, many directors and actors started shying away from working with Rohit.
Regarding this, Rohit said, 'It is quite natural that when a film does not do well, one feels bad. Then while making another film, many types of questions arise in the mind. There is also a dilemma in the mind whether a producer-actor will work with you or not. Self doubt also remains.
After the release of the first film Zameen, work on the script continued for one and a half years and started working on the film Golmaal in 2005. Then this film released in 2006 changed my entire career.
However, during this period I never thought of leaving the industry, but I kept feeling defeated. I was not settled in the industry at the beginning of my career. Because of this there was nothing to lose. My only aim was to connect people with low budget comedy films like Golmaal, All the Best.
Became the first filmmaker of Hindi film industry, who brought a concept like Universe. Rohit is the first filmmaker in the Hindi film industry, who invented the concept of universe in films. However, he had never planned this. He said, 'Never thought of this before. Till 2016 I had no such thoughts in my mind. The thought of this did not come till Singham, Singham Returns, but while making the film Simmba, the thought came that we can create something like a cop universe. We were fortunate that our idea was successful.
