Director General of Indian Meteorological Department Dr. Mrityunjay Mohapatra gave this information in an online press conference. He said, the global situation is conducive to monsoon rains. Therefore, 106 percent above average seasonal rainfall is predicted. An 'El Nino' ​​condition is currently active in the Pacific Ocean. El-Nino will become inactive till early June and El-Nino will become active in August-September. The Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is currently inactive. The IOD will be activated in early June. Snow cover in Eurasia (Europe and Asia) remained below average in March-April. All these conditions are favorable for southwest monsoon. Therefore, more than average rainfall is likely.

Good rain in Maharashtra…

Although Central India, South India, North India are expected to receive good rainfall, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, North East India and parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal are expected to receive below average rainfall, the Revised Southwest Monsoon Rainfall Forecast has been announced for the last week of May. will go At that time, the probability of rain will be announced month wise, said Mohapatra. Central India will receive good rains. Therefore, good rains are predicted in Maharashtra too.

Above average rainfall during La-Nina

La Nina conditions are becoming active in August and September. Therefore, it is observed that there has been more than average rainfall during this period. Mahapatra also said that except during the La Nina period, the Southwest Monsoon rains enter Kerala on time and reach the country at the appointed time.

The rainfall probability map released by 'IMD' has indicated that good rainfall is expected in most parts of Maharashtra. Konkan and South Maharashtra are likely to receive above average rainfall. As no clear signal is available from the forecast models, the department has not been able to identify the probability of rainfall in Vidarbha.
