After 'Khel Khel Mein', Fardeen Khan's film 'Visfot' has been released on the OTT platform Jio Cinema. However, he signed this film when he decided to return to acting. Recently, apart from Fardeen Khan, the film's actress Priya Bapat, director Koki Gulati and producer Sanjay Gupta talked to Dainik Bhaskar about this film.
During this, Fardeen Khan told that it has happened many times that life has changed in 24 hours. He also told that he has been cheated many times in life, but he has learnt a lot from it.
Fardeen, what was your reaction when you were told the script of the film? What was the reason behind choosing this film?
When I was making a comeback to acting, I was meeting everyone I had worked with before. When I met Sanjay Gupta, he offered me the script of 'Vishtosh'. I was very surprised. I consider myself very lucky that I got a chance to play such a character. I had worked with Sanjay earlier in 'Acid Factory'. I already knew director Kookie. Ritesh Deshmukh is like my brother.
Kuki, tell me what was so special about Fardeen Khan that you cast him for this film?
Sanjay Sir (Sanjay Gupta) had called me for this film. When my film 'Big Bull' was released, Sanjay Sir had told me that we will do something together. He told me that Fardeen Khan and Ritesh Deshmukh have agreed to do this film. I was very happy because I have worked with both of them. I was the associate director in Fardeen's film 'Fida'. After that we did many ads together.
Priya, what was the special reason for you to join this film?
I am very thankful to Sanjay sir for this film. He had seen my film 'City of Dreams'. He liked my work very much and offered me to work in 'Visfot'. I think if the role is challenging then the actor enjoys doing it.
Sanjay, you know Fardeen before Acid Factory, what changes did you see in him after such a long time gap?
Fardeen had shifted to London in 2013-14. I had seen many of his photos there, he had become quite a man by then. I thought he was enjoying fatherhood. When he met me, I was casting for the film. I was thinking that Fardeen is coming back, so what new thing is he bringing. That is why I gave him the role of Dongri. Kuki was thinking that the casting is not going wrong. I said that he is doing this deliberately.
Kookie, what changes have you seen in Fardeen from 'Fida' till now?
Earlier, films were made in such a way that stardom was visible. Now films are made in such a way that even the star has to act. It was a challenge for all of us to do a good job. Fardeen also took that challenge and spent three months preparing for the character. He immersed himself in the character and the environment of Dongri.
Kuki, you also choose your films like Sanjay Gupta's films, what is the reason behind this?
Ever since I thought of becoming a director, I have been inspired by watching Sanjay Sir and Ram Gopal Varma's films. The way Ram Gopal Varma has shown Mumbai in his films, such magic has never been seen before. Sanjay Sir has presented Mumbai's crime in a different way in cinema. I also like such a world very much.
Sanjay, why are you called a trendsetter for such films?
I do not make such films intentionally. Such films are running. There is a saying that one does not open the bonnet of a moving vehicle. As long as it is running, keep running it. I do not have any hobby of making such multi-genre films. Children have demanded a horror film from me.
Sanjay, you have always brought something new in your films and it has become a trendsetter, what would you like to say?
When I was in college and wanted to become a director, Feroz Khan, Raj Kapoor, Mukul Anand, Raj Sippy, JP Dutta, Mani Ratnam, Rahul Rawail had a lot of influence on me. Mukul Anand, Mani Ratnam, Rahul Rawail do something new in each of their films. When I saw 'Betaab' for the first time, I understood how long lenses are used. I got to see many such new things. They inspired me. When I started, my effort has been to bring something new in my films.
Fardeen, how did you prepare for your character?
I tried to understand the body language and the emotions of the character. We did a lot of readings with Cookie. When I signed this film, there was an atmosphere of Covid. There were many restrictions. I did not consider it necessary to go to Dongri and meet people to understand the depth of the character.
Priya what were your preparations?
For me, the script is everything. Reading sessions help a lot in understanding the character. In this film, I am opposite Ritesh Deshmukh. It was very comfortable working with him. I have played the character of Tara in it. I tried to understand the state of mind of that character.
The story of the film is of 24 hours. Fardeen, has it ever happened in your life that your whole life changed in 24 hours?
There are many such things in my life. First love, first heartbreak, first film, first superhit song 'Kambakht Ishq'. Second film Jungle. When I lost my parents. When I adopted a daughter and a son for the first time. There were many such occasions when my whole life changed in 24 hours. I have learned a lot from my failures.
Priya can you tell me?
I don't think anything like this has happened in my life in 24 hours. Whatever I have got, I have got it after a lot of hard work.
Priya, there is an angle of betrayal in your character, have you ever been betrayed in real life?
Neither have I cheated anyone. And, neither has anyone cheated me. In emotional cheating, you get hurt. But you are unable to understand it.
What would you like to say on the question of Fardeen cheating?
Who has not suffered betrayal? There have been many betrayals in life, but the question is what have you learnt from them. This makes you a little more sensible. Sometimes we too cheat someone. All this keeps happening in life.
