Singer Armaan Malik's new single album 'Tera Main Intezaar' has been released. This album has been composed by Armaan's elder brother Amaal Malik. He may have inherited music, but he had to face big challenges in the early days of his career. His uncle Anu Malik is a big music director in the industry, but he never gave him a chance.

While talking to Dainik Bhaskar, Armaan Malik told that his mother herself used to meet composers with demo CDs so that he could get work. If his mother had not supported him, he would not have been successful in the music industry.

Let us know what else Armaan Malik said during the question-answer session…

Your single album 'Tera Main Intezaar' has been released, what are you waiting for?

I am not waiting for anyone. When we do a song, we prepare to get into a character. After watching this song, many people are asking what happened to you? You are acting with so much pain in this song. As a singer and performer, we have to look at every project from a different perspective.

I prepared a lot for this. I stopped eating salt 3-4 days before the shooting. So that it looks like I have been crying for a long time. There are moments in this song where I had to scream and cry. To feel this emotion, I locked myself in a dark room.

Your daddy Dabboo Malik has also acted in films, has his acting influenced you?

I have never been inspired to act by anyone. I wanted to become a singer since childhood. I have been performing in music videos for so many years, so I have become very comfortable with acting. I never thought of acting in films. But if I get a good project, which is related to music, and if there is a musician's role according to my personality, then I can do it. I will not be able to act in any such film.

Your grandfather Sardar Malik was a music director, your uncle Anu Malik and your daddy have been associated with music, when did you think of making a career in music?

I have been singing since the age of four. At the age of eight, I had decided that I would become a singer. Grandfather used to play tanpura. I used to sit with him. I started singing in jingles. I participated in 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs' at the age of nine. After that, I started singing for children in Bhootnath, Tare Zameen Par.

How to carry forward grandfather's legacy?

My and my elder brother Amaal's endeavour is that whatever songs we sing, the melody should be very strong. Melody is in our blood. We try to make the melody reach people's soul. We want to carry forward this legacy of grandfather. We focus on quality. We think that a song should come and it should be very good. We have learnt this habit from grandfather.

What else did you learn from your grandfather?

I have learnt respect for music. I have learnt to be a good person. Dada ji was a very kind person. I wish he was here today and could have seen our success. He did not see much success in his career. Anu Chacha (Anu Malik) saw a lot of success. Daddy kept doing music, singing and acting. The kind of success he wanted.

We did not get the same success. We got it. This is Dadaji's blessing. Wherever he is, he is watching us. We have a very deep bond with Dadaji. We have dedicated a song 'Main Rahun Ya Na Rahun' to Dadaji.

How easy is it to make a career when you come from a musical background and what are the challenges?

There were many challenges. People think that having a filmy background makes opportunities come easily. But it was not so. If it were so, I would never have participated in the reality show 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs'. Papa did not want me to participate in it. Papa has seen many challenges in his life.

They did not want their children to go through that phase. Mom and I decided that we will participate in it. Even though I did not win that competition, I went on to sing many songs in Bollywood. No member of my family ever called anyone and asked them to get Armaan to sing.

I never sang for my uncle. I sang for my father just 3-4 years ago. Whatever relationships I have made in the industry, I have made them on my own. Mummy gave my demo CD to every composer in the recording studio. I have given many auditions in studios, only then I have got opportunities.

Papa has worked a lot with Salman Khan. He had a relationship with him. I had gone to present my album 'Armaan' to Salman sir. I wanted Salman sir to come to the launch of our album. This would have given promotion to our album. Salman sir used one of the songs in his film 'Jai Ho'. Our Bollywood career started from there.

Why did you never get a chance to sing with your uncle Anu Malik?

I never had a close relationship with my uncle. There was distance in the family since childhood. That is why we did not talk or meet each other. But the DNA of his music is in all of us. The way he has worked, hardly any composer has done it.

Has mom ever been interested in music?

Never, Mummy does not like to listen to music. She only listens to our songs. Mummy has made the biggest contribution to my career. She is the manager of all of us. If she had not worked hard, I would probably not be here today.

Did Salman Khan give any suggestions after 'Jai Ho'?

He asked me to lose weight and join dance classes. He said that along with singing, personality should also be visible. He was threatening me that he will be seen shirtless on screen. I got interested in fitness and workout only because of Salman sir. Otherwise we were thinking that we have to sing in the studio only. What is the need to build a body.
