Filmmaker Anand L Roy, who made films like Raanjhanaa, Tanu Weds Manu, Atrangi Re and Shahrukh Khan's Zero, will release his next film Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba on the OTT platform Netflix. The first part of the film was released on OTT in 2021.
Anand L Roy is the producer of the film. In an interview given to Dainik Bhaskar, he told why the film is being released on OTT, whereas it could have been released in theaters for financial gain. Anand also talked about the lead actors of the film Vikrant Massey, Sunny Kaushal and Jimmy Shergill.
Then where did the idea of making a sequel to Haseen Dillruba come from?
I think the story ends, but the characters remain the same. Somewhere the characters become bigger than the story. The makers, writers and audiences think that the characters are yet to be fully consumed.
Just look at Tanu Weds Manu. The story of the first part ended, but the desires of both the characters did not end. That is why we made the second part as well. The same thing happened with Haseen Dilruba as well.
Both the films of Tanu Weds Manu series were super hits.
Jimmy Shergill will also be seen in this film. Is he your lucky charm?
I develop a special bond with all the actors I work with. I am not limited to just films with them. I develop a sense of belongingness. Be it Akshay Kumar or Shahrukh Khan, Sonam Kapoor or Jimmy Shergill, I never forget anyone. Even if I don't work with Jimmy Sir for the next few years, there will be no change in our relationship.
How different will the film be from the previous one with the arrival of Jimmy and Sunny Kaushal?
This time we will get to see a lot of new things. The way the story has been written, I am sure that the audience will enjoy it more than before. This time the story has been crafted even more. The fun has doubled with the arrival of Sunny Kaushal and Jimmy Sir. Sunny is my neighbor, I have grown up eating parathas from his father Shyam Kaushal's house.
After 12th Fail, Vikrant Massey will now be seen in a completely new avatar, what would you say about him?
Actors like Vikrant Massey are rare. I am lucky that I am able to work with him. Today, in the age of competition, actors like Vikrant appear selfless. I used to see this quality only in Irrfan Khan sahab. Vikrant is younger than me, but I respect him a lot.

Then why did you think of bringing Haseen Dilruba to OTT?
The first part was released on OTT. The audience had developed a connection with the film. Now if I had released it in theatres for financial gain, it would have been a betrayal of the audience. I don't want the audience to think that the first film was a hit and hence the second part is being released in theatres out of greed.
You were the one who brought South star Dhanush to the Hindi belt, are you working with him again in a film?
I am working with Dhanush in a love story film. I will start shooting at the end of this year. It is a lot of fun working with Dhanush. I have developed a brotherly relationship with him. We went to Banaras for the shooting of Raanjhanaa. Even today, I have not been able to forget that place since then. Banaras is a place where I would like to go all the time.
