New York, News Agency: 10 Indian players including captain Rohit Sharma arrived in New York for the ICC T20 World Cup. However, batting mainstays Virat Kohli and vice-captain Hardik Pandya were not included in this first team. Virat had earlier sought permission from the board to enter late and the board had accepted his request. The first team arrived in New York includes head coach Rahul Dravid and other members of the support team.
Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dubey, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Akshar Patel entered the first team. Reserve players Shubman Gill and Khalil Ahmed are also included.
Kohli, who earlier played in the IPL eliminator match that concluded in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, will join the Indian team late. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya has immediately left for England after the end of IPL. He is also expected to join the Indian team soon. Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya could not even secure a place in the play-offs here.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal and reserve player Avesh Khan, who represented Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier on Friday, were expected to leave for the US late on Monday. The Indian team will play the only warm-up match against Bangladesh before the actual start of the upcoming ICC World Cup. This match will be played at Nassau County International Stadium.
