Ayushmann Khurrana's wife Tahira Kashyap is making her directorial debut with the film 'Sharmaji Ki Beti'. She has also written the story of this film. Tahira says that she always wanted to become a director. But she did not know how to fulfill it. This journey has not been easy for me. To join the industry, I joined theatre. Because I come from a small town. My father is a journalist and mother is from the education field. Because of this, my family had nothing to do with the industry.
After being in a relationship for 12 years, Ayushmann and Tahira got married in 2011.
Tahira was associated with theatre for 10 years
Tahira said- I could not find any way to join the industry, so I joined theatre. I did theatre for 10 years in Chandigarh. When I thought of making theatre a profession, no one would even buy a ticket worth Rs 10. I had understood that I would not be able to earn my bread and butter with this.
The couple has two children, a son and a daughter.
I decided that I would do post graduation in journalism. I had already done my graduation in biotech. I had made several backup plans for myself. After coming to Mumbai, I first worked as a professor. After this, I worked as a programming head in an FM station.

Tahira Kashyap says that Ayushmann has done a great job in all his films. But my favourite film among all his films is 'Bala'.
When people liked the short films, my courage increased
Even after doing all this, I still felt something was incomplete because I was interested in direction. I started making short films. My short films got a lot of love in India and abroad. My short film has been shown at many places including Miami Film Festival and Chicago Film Festival.
According to Ayushmann, Tahira is the first and last girl in his life.
People started liking the films I made. Seeing this, my courage increased and I decided to move further in film making. I strongly believe in the powers of the universe. I want to present my vision to the world through films.
Why did you not cast any big male actor in the film?
On this, Tahira says that many people told me this. People used to explain to me that I should take a hero in the film otherwise the films do not work. But I think it depends on your choice that how you want to show your story. Many men heard my story and they liked it. This film got the support of many male actors and makers. People give you many types of advice, but you should do what is right for your work.
How did you get the idea for the story of the film?
Tahira says, this film is very close to my heart. Because I was working on it for many years. I got the inspiration for this story from myself and the women around me. Whenever I meet any woman, I listen to her very carefully and understand her words. I like observing people very much. I have been especially inspired by the women in my life.
At the time of the couple's marriage, Ayushmann was going through financial difficulties.
This journey has not been easy for me. I have spent 7 years in making 'Sharmaji Ki Beti'. I am very inspired by women in real life. This film is very special for me.
Tahira said- Life of women is not easy. We leave behind a lot of things and come away from home and keep moving ahead with a smile on our face. But inside we are fighting many battles.
'Sharma Ji Ki Beti' will stream on Amazon Prime Video on June 28. The film stars Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta and Saiyami Kher in lead roles.
