They beat world champions Australia by 21 runs in the Super 8 round match on Sunday (23rd). Gulabdin Naib took 4 wickets. While Navin-ul-Haq took 3 wickets. This is Afghanistan's first win against Australia in international cricket.
Batting first after the loss of the toss at the Arnos Well ground in Kingstown, Afghanistan posted a challenging total of 148 for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs on the back of half-centuries from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran. In reply, the Australian team were bowled out for 127 runs in 19.2 overs and lost the match by 21 runs.
This is the first time in the history of cricket that Afghanistan have defeated Australia in any format. The defeat dealt a blow to Australia's hopes of reaching the semi-finals. The Kangaroos will have to defeat India in their last Super-8 match on June 24.
