TV show Anupama fame actor Sudhanshu Pandey has been a part of the film and television industry for 24 years. He started his career with the show 'Beta' in 1996. The actor has left the show Anupama some time ago, now he is voicing the character of 'Hulk' for Audible's podcast series 'Marvel's Wastelanders-Doom'.
On joining this big project, Sudhanshu Pandey has shared his experience with Dainik Bhaskar-
Question- Who is your favorite character from Marvel? How did you get the offer for this audio series?
answer- I have seen all the Marvel movies and series. Both my children are big fans of this universe, because of them I have also seen all the projects of this popular banner. Also, the character of 'Hulk' has been my favorite. Luckily, I also got a chance to give voice to this character through this series of Audible.
I relate the most to the character of Hulk. That is why I got the offer for this audio book. This offer came to me through my friend Rudra. In today's time when people do not have time to watch a project carefully, this kind of audio book series takes them to a different world without visuals. I felt that I have got a great opportunity to do a new experiment, why not capitalize on it.
Question: To give voice to Hulk, did you also watch Hindi dubbing films as reference?
answer- I did not take reference from the Hindi dubbed films of the Marvel series to give voice to this character. I have given voice to it in my own way which the audience will recognize when they hear it. The rest has been enhanced further with mixing and background effects. It is a big challenge for an actor to make a character his own which the audience has seen and heard with some other voice, so I came for dubbing like a blank paper.
I have put in my effort in it in my own style. I have tried my best to make sure that the impact of my voice shows that Hulk is angry right now. I hope people will like it.
Question: Have you received any offers for any other Hollywood project?
answer- After giving voice to the character of Hulk in this series, I have not received any offer for any other project but I am sure that after this I will definitely get offers for more such characters. My only Hollywood film was 'The Myth' starring Jackie Chan, for which I gave voice. I have not received any offer since then. In the future, I plan to do more from Hollywood. Apart from Hulk, I like the character of Iron Man a lot in Marvel. I think if I am offered such a character, I would definitely like to do it.
Question: Do you agree that after appearing on the show 'Beta', your heroic phase went down somewhere?
answer- I think that the concept of hero ended long ago or we can say it got diluted. If we look at today's date, there is no real hero left. Villains in our films were very strong. Look at Vinod Khanna or Shatrughan Sinha, they started with villain roles. However, they were like heroes. Later they also appeared on screen as heroes. In the beginning of my career, I did a lot of such work in which I was in the lead role or hero. But in between when I went into music (Band of Boys), that trend broke somewhere. Then I came back and did important roles in films with two heroes.
Sudhanshu Pandey started his acting career with the 1996 show Beta.
Question- What was the reason for getting into character roles?
answer- The first character role I did after my comeback from 'Band of Boys' was 'Singh is King'. This was me working with Akshay again, before this I had made my film debut with him in 'Khiladi 420'. When my manager told me about 'Singh is King', I said to him, have you gone crazy calling me for a character role. Then he told me that this is a big film, all the characters are very important in it.
Then I went to meet Anees Bazmee and he convinced me. He also told me that apart from Akshay, it is your character who has a personal love angle as well as why he has become a criminal. Why is his family away from him?
Question: What kind of roles do you wish to play in the future?
answer- Now I want to play a character like 'Joker'. Today the definition of hero has changed. Character role means that you play different characters. Earlier the heroes used to do only one thing, that is they will do good, think good and become good but today the hero and villain have all merged, everything has become grey. In Anupama also my character Vanraj was grey. Now realistic things have started becoming more. Now there is God in man and devil in man.
Sudhanshu Pandey played the role of Vanraj in the show Anupama.
Question- Do you want to explore something new?
answerThere is no end to exploring new things in the rest of the career. I feel that I haven't even started yet. I want to play such characters that people will remember for their whole life. Like these days I got a lot of praise for the character of Vanraj. My all-time favourite character is that of 'Joker'. If I get a chance, I would definitely like to play it.
Question: Have you ever regretted leaving any project or character?
answer- We keep doing good and bad things throughout our lives, but I have never regretted leaving any film or character. I believe that we learn from every mistake. Whatever I am today is because of my mistakes or because of my decisions, which I consider right. I feel that my career so far has been very balanced, even if it did not go like a rocket, but that was my own choice. I have always worked on my own terms, never took any shortcuts, never made any compromises. My next project will be for OTT.
