Leader Online Desk: The domestic stock markets opened slightly higher today. The Sensex opened above 76,600 with a gain of over 100 points while the Nifty also touched a new high of 23,417.
Markets saw a steady start today. Both Sensex and Nifty are seen opening higher. Nifty opened above 23300 on June 12 due to mixed global cues. The Sensex was trading up 147.65 points, or 0.19 per cent, at 76,604.24. The Nifty was trading up 48.70 points, or 0.21 per cent, at 23,313.50.
Midcap and smallcap indices hit fresh record highs. Nifty Midcap has crossed the 54,000 mark for the first time. Several oil and IT stocks rose, including BPCL, HPCL, HCL Tech, LTIM, Infosys, Tech Mahindra.
2001 shares had increased. While 496 stocks fell. 105 shares remained unchanged. The top gainers in the Nifty were HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, BPCL, Wipro and LTIMindtree. Asian Paints, Titan Company, Grasim, NTPC and HUL fell.
According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 111 crore while domestic investors bought shares worth Rs 3193 crore on Monday. Brent crude futures rose 37 cents, or 0.45%, to 82.29 a barrel after crude oil inventories fell more than expected last week.
