Stock Market Closing Bell | Sensex, Nifty flat, realty hit, IT boom | leader


Leaders Online Desk: Weak global cues and a rise in US Treasury bonds have led investors to take a cautious stance. As a result, the Indian stock market witnessed some volatility today on Wednesday. Indian equity indices closed flat today. The Sensex today closed marginally lower at 73,876 points by 27 points. Nifty fell by 18 points to settle at 22,434. (Stock Market Closing Bell)

Interestingly, after a weak start today, the market saw a recovery and both indices closed flat. The market was supported by buying in government banking and IT sector. Sales in the FMCG and pharma sectors remained under pressure.

The market started off weak today. But there was a recovery in the early hours. IT, Metals, Oil & Gas, Power indices pushed it close to record highs. But selling at the market close reduced the initial gains.

On the sectoral front, the realty index fell 2.5 percent. While the auto index was down 0.4 percent. Meanwhile, Power, PSU Bank indices gained 1 percent each and IT, Media indices gained 0.5 percent each. The BSE midcap index gained 0.6 percent and the smallcap index gained 1 percent.

'These' shares are top gainers, top losers

Sensex opened at 73,757 today. It then reached a high of 74,151. But it closed below 73,900. Nestle India, Kotak Bank, JSW Steel, Titan, Bajaj Finserv were the top losers on Sensex. While the shares of NTPC, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance rose the most.

Shreeram Finance, NTPC, TCS, Tech Mahindra were bullish on Nifty. While the shares of Nestlé India, Bajaj Auto, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Britannia Industries fell.

Other Asian markets also fell on fears of a delay in interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. This has made investors cautious. (Stock Market Closing Bell)
