Stock Market Closing Bell | Sensex, Nifty close higher, BSE Midcap, Smallcap also up


Leader Online Desk: The fall in the Indian stock market, which has been going on for the past few days, got a break on Friday (10th). The Sensex closed up 260 points at 72,664. While the Nifty settled at 22,055 with an increase of 97 points. Overall, the market saw mixed trading today.

On Thursday, the Sensex closed down 1,062 points at 72,404. Nifty fell by 345 points to settle at 21,957. Meanwhile, Sensex and Nifty recovered from yesterday's decline and closed higher today.

3.28 lakh crore increase in market capitalisation

Meanwhile, today on May 10, the market capitalization of BSE listed companies reached Rs 396.62 lakh crore. The market capitalization of BSE listed companies on May 9 was Rs 393.34 lakh crore. This means that the market capitalization of BSE listed companies increased by 3.28 lakh crores.

The stock market had a bullish start today amid positive global cues. Sensex rose 500 points to close to 72,900 in early trade. While Nifty increased by 150 points to trade at 22,100 thousand. After that the boom slowed down.

Nifty metal bullish

Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Metal rose 1.5 percent. After that, FMCG, Auto, Pharma grew by 1 percent each. Nifty IT closed down 0.8 percent. Nifty Realty, Nifty PSU Bank declined 0.4 percent and 0.3 percent respectively. Meanwhile, BSE Midcap and Smallcap closed up 0.8 percent each.

Which are the top gainers shares?

The Sensex closed at 72,404 on Thursday. It then opened at 72,475 on Friday. It rose to 72,946 in today's trading session. It then settled near 72,700. On the Sensex, shares of NTPC, Power Grid, JSW Steel, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, ITC, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Motors, Titan, Bajaj Finance, Reliance gained 1-2 percent. While the shares of TCS, Infosys, M&M, HCL Tech, HDFC Bank declined.

BPCL, NTPC, Power Grid, Hero MotoCorp, JSW Steel were the top gainers on Nifty. These shares rose by 2 to 4.5 percent. While shares of TCS, Cipla, LTIMindtree, Infosys, M&M fell by 1 percent each.

Paytm shares hit an upper circuit

Meanwhile, shares of Paytm's parent company One97 Communications took an upper circuit today. The stock rose 5 percent to Rs 349 on the NSE. The stock has gained about 10 percent in the last two days. The stock had fallen for 10 straight sessions till Wednesday.
