Leaders Online: Strong action was seen in the Indian stock market today, Monday. Sensex and Nifty closed higher after a flat start. The Sensex closed up 104 points at 72,748. While the Nifty settled at 22,055 with an increase of 32 points. Capital goods, healthcare, auto, realty, metal, media gained 0.5 to 3 percent, while IT and FMCG declined 0.5 to 1 percent. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices closed flat. Metals and auto shares were particularly buoyant today. While sales in the FMCG and IT sectors remained under pressure from the top level. What are the top gainers, top losers stocks?

Ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy decisions this week, investors have taken a cautious stance. The repercussions of this are being reflected in the stock market to some extent. Sensex opened at 72,587 today. It then increased to 72,985. Shares of Tata Steel became the top gainer on the Sensex. The stock rose more than 5 percent to Rs 149. At the same time, shares of M&M, JSW Steel, Tata Motors, Reliance, Sun Pharma, Maruti, Axis Bank rose between 1 to 3 percent. While the shares of Infosys, TCS, Titan, Hindustan Unilever, Wipro, Nestle India fell.

Tata Steel, M&M, JSW Steel, Tata Motors, Apollo Hospital were the top gainers on Nifty. Tata Consumer, Infosys, UPL, TCS, Titan were top losers.

Adani shares fell

After the Hindenburg report, now another problem is facing the Gautam Adani group. This has led to a fall in Adani Group shares. Adani shares took a hit after Bloomberg reported that prosecutors in the US have stepped up their probe into the Adani Group over alleged bribery. Shares of Adani Enterprises fell nearly 4 percent in early trade. While shares of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd fell by nearly 3 percent. Adani Wilmar and Adani Power fell around one percent. Shares of Adani Total Gas, Adani Energy Solutions, Adani Green Energy fell by 2-3 percent.

Foreign investors

Foreign portfolio investors bought Indian stocks worth Rs 849 crore on a net basis last Friday. Domestic institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 682 crore. (Stock Market Closing Bell)
