Stock Market Closing Bell | Market closes in red, Nifty below 22,900


Leaders Online Desk: Sensex and Nifty fell on Tuesday (Dec 28) as volatility increased in the stock markets. The Sensex closed down 220 points at 75,170. While the NSE Nifty settled flat at 22,888 with a minor fall of 44 points.

On the sectoral front, Oil & Gas, Capital Goods, Telecom, PSU Bank, Power and Realty indices were down by 1-1.5 per cent. Analysts say that the market fell due to the unsettled environment ahead of the Lok Sabha election results.

Selling pressure on BSE Midcap- Smallcap

All sectoral indices traded in red today except Nifty Pharma. BSE Midcap and Smallcap remained under selling pressure. BSE Midcap fell 0.6 percent and BSE Smallcap nearly 1 percent.

Which ones fell, which ones grew?

Shares of Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, NTPC, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, Maruti, Reliance declined on the Sensex. While the shares of Asian Paints, Hindustan Unilever, JSW Steel, Wipro, M&M remained bullish.

Shares of Adani Ports, Power Grid, Coal India, BPCL, Adani Enterprises fell by 1-2 percent on NSE Nifty. Whereas Divis Lab, SBI Life, HDFC Life, Grasim, Hero Motocorp rose by 2 to 3 percent.

The fear index VIX rose again

The stock market fear index India VIX rose 4 percent to 24. The index has already risen by 122 per cent in the last one month due to lower-than-expected turnout in the initial phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The National Index of Stock Market Volatility (Weeks) relates to the 30-day expected volatility of futures market transactions in the Nifty. From the last few days, it is seen increasing in a big way. Domestic and international elements are working behind this.
