Leaders Online: A boat overturned in Jhelum river in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar on Tuesday morning. 11 people were traveling in this boat. There were 5 school children in it. It is reported that 4 people died in this accident and 7 people were rescued. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and security personnel are carrying out rescue operations at the spot. This boat used to carry people daily from Gandbal to Batwara.
Due to continuous rains for the last two days, the water level in the river Jhelum has increased. Muzaffar Zargar, Medical Superintendent of SMHS Hospital in Srinagar, said that seven people were brought to the hospital. Four of them died and three others are undergoing treatment. Among the dead are 2 women.
