Southwest Monsoon: Monsoon advances, covers Bay of Bengal, Northeast India | leader


Leader Online Desk: Southwest Monsoon entered Kerala two days earlier on Thursday (May 30). Meanwhile, the speed of monsoon is more and it is advancing rapidly. Today (May 31) Monsoon has advanced a little further and currently Monsoon has covered the remaining part of Bengal and some other part of Northeast India (Southwest Monsoon), the Indian Meteorological Department has informed.

Southwest Monsoon: Monsoon advances in 'this' region

The Southwest Monsoon has advanced over the remaining parts of Northeast Bay of Bengal and parts of Northwest Bay of Bengal, Tripura, Meghalaya and the rest of Assam and most of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, the IMD said in an X post.

Monsoon in Central Arabian Sea in next 2 to 3 days

The Meteorological Department also said that Southwest Monsoon will advance over some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, rest of South Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep region, Kerala, parts of Karnataka, some parts of Tamil Nadu and Southwest Bay of Bengal in next 2-3 days.

Both branches of monsoon are active simultaneously

Both branches of monsoon are likely to become more active simultaneously. Therefore, monsoon is likely to reach Goa, South Maharashtra and Pune around June 2. Anupam Kashyapi, Retired Head of Pune Meteorological Department, has predicted that monsoon will arrive in Goa (June 5), South Sindudhurg (June 6), Pune (June 10) and Mumbai on June 11 due to the rapid movement of monsoon in the southern part of the state.
